astray.

  Even though our lives depend

  Risk for nothing gained,

  Yielding to our sinful end.

  ****

  Consume

  Cravings, we just can’t ignore,

  Having to have it all,

  Armed with our plastic swords

  Reared inside the mall.

Give to want instead of need

  Every soul now on sale,

  Incubate, our selfish greed,

  Til desire ends in fail.

  ****

  Get Up

In need of a little flame-

  Dragon to wake within,

Living a life full of sin,

  Evil my will to claim.

Worse it is, without a cause,

One leap could set me free.

Rosy lens with which to see

  Salvation from my flaws.

Hard each day I must strive,

  Indolent path no more!

  Precious gift will soon arrive.

  ****

  Golden

Next to me a different name,

Each with needs to be met.

In His eyes all the same,

  Gift of love to beget.

Harbor any ill thoughts no more,

Brothers in arms, we should be.

  One command we can’t ignore,

Regard others, as if they were me.

  ****

  Employer

Thinking I had it in control

  Happening at my will,

  Evil guiding to this hole,

Bitter end would be my pill.

Only a fool to think this way:

Solo path to get me lost,

Satan’s wish would have its day,

One chance, to avoid the cost.

  Freely I must always give-

  Meekly to Him I bow,

  Eternal my desire to live

  ****

  Seasick

Brave I do my best to be,

  Oars so hard to move,

All alone in this dark sea

Trying who knows what to prove!

  Overturn my boat I wish

  No more struggle to endure,

  Water of life to nourish,

And sickness in me to cure.

  Temper my resolve to fight-

  End this wavy ride,

Ropes tied to a guiding light.

  ****

  Bare

  Stubbornly I clung to old

  Tendencies to nourish id,

Regaled in all I was, behold!

  Intent on not being outdid.

Price had finally come to pay

Pieces of my soul then lost,

Enjoyed as long as I could play

  Dense to what it cost.

  Defeated by needs of flesh

  Only one-way up from here,

  Window open now to fresh,

  Naked ears to finally hear.

  ****

  Unnatural Selection

Earth and sun and gardens too-

  Virtue in all our hearts,

Obey is all we had to do.

Lust and greed is our romance

  Undermining all that’s good,

The Father gave us another chance.

Instead, we chose to look away,

Once upon a time has left,

Now only waiting for the last day.

  ****

  At Last

Just how long could I stand

  Under such duress?

  Shameful heart in firm command.

  Time was quickly running out

  I almost lost for good,

  Fortunately, I heard Him shout.

  Inspiration for eyes to see

  Ears could finally hear,

  Darkness no longer upon me.

  ****

  Valentine

  How could anyone dispute?

  Everything pointed to this,

  Lasting His divine tribute.

Once we were mired in guilt

  Virtue beyond our reach,

Escaping only by His blood spilt.

  Sacrificing no more He could

  Undeserving we’ll always be,

So gracious by our side He’s stood.

  ****

  Gathering

Feed us all He promised to

  If only we would believe,

Risked it all for our rescue

So that more we could achieve.

Time is now our worth to prove

  Forward to each must pay,

  Righteous path would us behoove

Under Him to light the way.

In sync we must rise up as He,

To share the love as family.

  ****

  False Prophet

  Somehow thinking above it all

Pious to our face and His,

Instead, to greed you will befall!

Dreams of glory, fame, and more

  Eagerly hold out open hands,

Realizing too late what it is for.

  Mirror’s gaze will soon portend

  And show what you’ve become,

No more sheep for you to tend.

  ****

  Relax

In this land of the lost

  Neglecting my soul for dead,

  No pain left to exhaust

  Embrace it, I must instead.

  Resurrect an old heartbeat,

  Passive aggressor tossed aside,

  Enemies within admit defeat

And rejoice! at new life inside.

Calm now the travel on this road

  Easing toward a heavenly abode.

  ****

  Adopted

Believing this was all it implied

Obsessed with what I had not,

  Realized only empty inside.

Nearing despair at this my plight,

  Above the clouds may break,

Giving way to the brightest light.

Agents held me captive no more

  Instead, they run and hide,

Now His grace has washed ashore.

  ****

  Hunger

Show to me the full spread

  Offering the total reveal,

Let me wander no further ahead

In search of my next meal.

Dizzy I’ve been from empty soul

Fill me up with the Holy Ghost!

Only your way will I extol

  Ordained by what’s needed most.

  Deliver me my daily bread,

Satiate now from toe to head.

  ****

  Progress

  Deeper we continue to embrace

  Ownership of our own fate,

Willfully turn from all good grace,

  No more need to prostrate.

  Wayward souls we’ve become

  Anxious for secular whim,

Remorse gone for what will come,

  Doomed to fail without Him.

  ****

  On Earth

How much more can be done

  Undermining our rights to peace?

Maybe see that we’re all one

Allowing pain and strife to cease.

  No more worshipping of hate

  Ignoring what matters most,

  Time instead to celebrate!

Yield to a more gracious host.

  ****
